Do other regions [...] Monadnock Region organizations working to support farmers and our local food system in Southwestern New Hampshire are meeting seasonally, inspired by the Valley Food Council and its role in collaboration building. Our current goals are to boost communication & collaboration between organizations, synergize our community outreach efforts and identify common goals. The Hannah Grimes Center for Entrepreneurship wants to help farm and food processing business owners achieve their vision of success. What we’ve heard so far from Monadnock Region farmers is that a successful farm: Provides a living wage to all farm workers. “We survive without outside income [from a second job], but we don’t have health insurance—it is one of the hard things for small farmers.” One prominent need, quoted above and voiced at the Monadnock Region’s 2010 Farm Focus Group discussion, is access to affordable and dependable health care insurance for farmers and farm workers.
